Satyanarayana pooja

Among the most frequently practised pooja in Hindu culture is one that worships Lord Vishnu in his Puranic aspect of Satyanarayan, the Satyanarayana Pooja. This pooja is usually held when one wants to give thanks and request for everything that brings prosperity and happiness. Such rituals are done at the time of ritualistic functions, eg. Marriage, entering a new house or any festivals.

Procedure

The pooja usually involves some reading of Satyanarayana’s Katha, which glorifies Lord Vishnu. Fruits, sweets, and other standard offerings are made to the deity and the participants are treated with the food known as “Prasad,” which represents their collective blessings.
